Can you believe the show is only two weeks away?! I sure can’t. I can’t describe all the things I’m feeling these days, but two of the most important feelings is OVERWHELMING LOVE and INDESCRIBABLE GRATITUDE! Our indieGoGo is just under 1/2 of the way there! People are buying tickets! And everyone is so amazingly supportive and rooting for, not my, but OUR success.
And speaking of US…
THIS WEEK’S ARTIST . . . SYDNIE L. MOSLEY
Sydnie L. Mosley is a New York City-based dancer, choreographer and teaching artist. She earned her MFA in Dance from the University of Iowa and is also an alumna of Barnard College at Columbia University where she earned her BA in Dance and Africana Studies. She is currently an Alumnae Fellow with the Barnard Center for Research on Women, a position that allows her to deepen her artistic work with the resources of the academy. She presents her choreography with her Harlem-based company Sydnie L. Mosley Dances. Her work has notably been presented in the Chen Dance Center newsteps program, the FIGMENT Festival, RoofTop Dance, as a part of the New York Foundation for the Arts Boot Camp Arts Festival, the Harlem Arts Alliance Artz, Rootz & Rhythm Festival, and at The Actors Fund Art Theater. In 2012 she will present at the Joyce Soho, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Judson Church and Barnard College.
Sydnie currently performs with INSPIRIT, an all female collaborative dance company; and is dance faculty for The DreamYard Preparatory School and the Grosvenor House YMCA. Learn more at http://sydnielmosley.com
Sydnie and her company will present an excerpt from their newest evening-length work, The Window Sex Project, which addresses and tackles the every day practice in which women are “window shopped.”

THIS WEEK’S ARTIST . . . EBONIE SMITH
Ebonie Smith is a singer-songwriter/music producer and creative entrepreneur based in New York City. She has performed at a number of NYC’s premiere venues (SOB’s, Webster Hall, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater) as well as at Le Centre Culturel Francais in Cameroon, West Africa. A skilled beat-maker, Ebonie has crafted songs for artists based all over the world, most notably Israel’s African Hebrew Israelites of Jerusalem. She has also worked alongside soul legend Nona Hendryx of Labelle to coordinate Unfiltered Music, an arts collective for independent musicians. Ebonie is also the founder of Eudora House, a boutique music production company. While a student at Barnard, Ebonie organized the Gender Amplified: Women & Technological Innovation in Hip Hop academic conference in collaboration with the Barnard Center for Research on Women, Barnard’s Africana Studies Program, and Femmixx.com. This day-long conference brought together hip hop producers, scholars, artists, activists, and music enthusiasts to assess the impact that gender identities have on the field of music technology and women’s participation in hip hop production culture. In addition to her Barnard degree, she holds a Master’s degree in music technology from New York University.
You can learn more about Ebonie and see her event schedule at http://eboniesmith.com/. Ebonie also has TWO (yes one PLUS one) albums available on iTunes, Third World Symphony and Urban Polka Dots.

Happy new year!
I gotta be honest, 2012 has already thrown me some hard curve balls, and I know the fire has just begun! But there are two things my father would always tell me as a child that remain close to my heart and spirit…
“To stumble is not to fall, but to move forward faster.”
“As you keep taking steps on your journey, you will be met with universal grace.”
In one week, 6 people were truly MY universal grace. Their donations to my production, “…first…”, reminded me through every moment of doubt and frustration that I have not fallen. That my dream is valuable. That I AM taking the steps meant for MY journey.
Take a moment to check out the show on IndieGoGo and also share it with your friends.
